A great week for geeks
The apartment moving is still going well, but it gets awfully boring to talk about boxes all the time. In lieu of saying "We still have a lot of boxes to unpack, but the moving is going well" (oops, I guess I just said it), I'm going to talk about several exciting tech things that I learned about this week.
First, Facebook is a website geared toward social networking of college students. You can create a profile, and add people to your list of friends. It's a great way to keep track of people over the years, and I've used it to get in touch with a lot of people whom I haven't seen in awhile.
The exciting tech thing here is that this week, Facebook released a programmer's API. This is a lot of information about how the site works so that geeks like me can program their own software to interact with Facebook. I can't wait to play around with that a bit.
Next, Blogger themselves came out with a new version of their blogging software. Being what one might call an "early adopter" (or, "easily excitable"), I've already switched this blog over to the new beta software. There are a ton of new features that I'm looking forward to tinkering with. Suffice it to say, if things look a little wonky around here, it's not you...it's me playing with the site.
Finally, I got an email about Google's upcoming Code Jam. This is an opportunity for programmers everywhere to go head to head in a competition to solve a handful of coding logic problems and eventually compete for prestige and cash. I'm seriously considering registering for the first round just because it sounds fun.
