Pink Lightning
I started these socks shortly after Christmas (when Santa, with his never failing good taste, gifted me with sock yarn reminiscent of Barbie and My Little Pony), and have been working on them half-heartedly since.
Oh, the first sock went well, and was done in almost record time (3 weeks, I think it was?) considering that I have almost zero time to knit these days. But then second sock syndrome hit, and I just couldn't get into gear and finish the race. That is, until I placed an order for yarn for a new project.
The yarn showed up. It was beautiful. Half silk, half wool; it's soft and shimmers in the light. I could not wait to get my hands on that yarn. BUT, I said to myself, "You will NOT begin this new project until those socks are DONE. We have enough half-finished knitting projects sitting around the house!" Suddenly, I found new purpose, and the 1/3 of a sock that had been languishing on my desk for weeks (months...) flew off the needles, and here we are.
I used this pattern called "Aran Braid Socks For Teri" (except, of course, that they then because "Aran Braid Socks For Liz"). Less than two skeins of Koigu Painter's Palette Premium Merino in some mystery color. The pattern up the side is sort of a double cable that looks like celtic knotwork, and a single strand of that carries on down the foot. The cables don't show up quite as well when the socks are lying flat, so hopefully I'll get some "On-foot" photos later on. I'm also hoping fervently that they shrink in the wash, as they are too big around for my feet even though I knit these several stitches smaller than called for.
